A man is detained after committing a string of crimes early on Saturday morning and allegedly chasing police in Ventura.
According to the Ventura Police Department, community members observed a man tampering with his neighbor’s car in an apartment in the 6600 block of Til Street.
When officers arrived they found a man from the area riding a bike near Balboa Middle School. The officer tried to stop him, but he ran off on his bike.
This led to a few minutes of tracking. Eventually, in the 4700 block of Nielsen Street, officers used police cars to cut off the road. The man got into the car and fell off his bike.
The man identified as 33-year-old Jacob Idelott was later taken into custody.
Police said at one point during the pursuit, Idelot threw 17 grams of fentanyl from the bridge and onto the highway 126.
He was arrested on suspicion of tampering with a vehicle, resistance or delaying, possession of a controlled substance for sale, destruction or concealment of evidence, possession of hard drugs.
In addition to the accusations mentioned above, Idelot served six aggressive warrants in Ventura County and one in Santa Barbara County.
Additional details were not available immediately. No injuries were reported during the pursuit.
