The investigation into the deaths of three LA County Councillors was killed by an explosion of military-style hand rena bullets, all considered inert, but law enforcement officials from Santa Monica to Marina del Rey were found outside their apartment Monday.

The explosion occurred last Friday morning at the Viscale Regional Training Center in East Los Angeles.

The three representatives, Detective Joshua Kelly Ecklund, Detective Victor Remus and Detective William Osborne, were killed while operating “an unattacked weapon,” sources told KTLA on Friday. All three were assigned to the LASD Special Enforcement Bureau’s Arson Explosive Details.

Preliminary reports suggest that the explosives may have been connected to a surgery performed one day before the fatal explosion (one day before the fatal explosion) in Santa Monica. Deputies, including the three who died, were called to the Bay Street apartment building to assist Santa Monica Police Station officials in investigating an explosive device in a storage unit near the building.

A woman cleaning the storage bin found the device and called it authorities. The neighbor told KTLA that it is likely that he was left behind by a former tenant who moved in about five years ago.

Investigators for the LA County Sheriff’s Department and ATF Agent were seen outside the Marina Del Rey Ray apartment on July 21, 2025. From left (KTLA). 2025. The explosives that exploded and killed three LA County Sheriff’s Office deputies could have been found in a storage unit in an apartment in Santa Monica, law enforcement sources said.

Authorities reportedly found in the unit were two hand rena bullets believed to have been stolen from the US military by previously enlisted individuals who may have taken them during training.

The explosives were X-ray and X-ray in the Santa Monica scene, considered inert and were transported to the East LA Training Center.

The tragic explosion on July 18th reportedly occurred when one of the hand rena bullets was cut in half as part of a training exercise.

Early Monday morning, a Sheriff’s Bureau murder investigator was found outside Villa del Marl Apartments in the 13,900 block of Red Toyota Prius, in the 13,900 block of Marquesa, along with agents from the alcohol department, cigarettes, firearms and explosives.

It is unknown what investigators found while searching for the vehicle. So far, no arrests have been made in this case.
