Mark Green, R-Tenn, chairman of the House of Representatives’ Homeland Security Committee. announced it had departed Capitol Hill early on Monday.
Greene said in a statement first obtained by Fox News Digital, he will leave Congress in the private sector after the House votes again for President Donald Trump’s “big, beautiful bill” in the coming weeks, and once again the House votes again.
“It’s heartfelt to announce my retirement from Congress. Recently I was so excited in the private sector that I was offered the opportunity to hand over. As a result, I notified speakers and the House that I would resign from Congress as soon as the House votes for the settlement package again,” Greene said.

He called Tennessee’s 7th Congressional District to serve “lifetime honor.”
“They asked me to deliver the conservative values and principles that we all cherish, and I made the most of my level to do so. Along the way, we passed historic tax cuts, worked with President Trump to secure our borders, defending innocent lives.
Greene admitted in a statement that he had previously prepared to retire at the last legislature, but reversed the course.

“I had planned to retire at the end of the previous Congress, but I remained to ensure that President Trump’s border security measures and priorities would do that through Congress,” he said.
“I did that by overseeing the border security portion of the settlement package. After that, I will retire and there will be a special election to replace me.”
Green is an Army veteran who has served in Congress since 2019.
As chairman of the House of Representatives’ Homeland Security Committee, he oversaw the blast each of former Republican Biden administration DHS executive director Alejandro Mayorkas.

It’s not clear where he’s going in the private sector, but it’s a safe bet to assume that his seat in his home will remain in the hands of Republicans.

The district voted more than 20 percent of points for President Donald Trump last year over former Vice President Kamala Harris.
Republican leaders want to consider Trump’s massive agenda bill on July 4th or shortly after.
The bill passed the House with a narrow 215-214 votes and is now being considered by the Senate. If the Senate changes the bill as expected, the House will need to approve that version before hitting Trump’s desk.
