On July 4th, a masked federal agent restraining a Highland Park vendor was recorded while preparing food for the community.
A senior Homeland Security official confirmed his arrests to KTLA on Sunday, saying the detainee was identified as Lewis Thomas Meziah Canille – a native of Guatemala, and had overstayed a visa in the US.
The family said Meziah Kanil was arrested Friday morning in front of Target on Eagle Rock Boulevard and El Paso.
A video of Mejia-Canil’s arrest has been shared on Tiktok by user @ceelokk23_ and shows masked US customs and border security agents handcuffing the vendor behind the workstation.

More agents then assist in the arrest, eventually taking Meziakanil to an unmarked SUV before driving.
The spokesman said undocumented individuals can “control the departure” using the CBP Home app, adding that the US is not only offering $1,000 to those who do so, but also offering free flights to self-promotion.
“We illegally encourage everyone here to use this offer and reserve the opportunity to return to the United States to the correct legal way to live their American dreams,” read the statement. “If not, you will be arrested and deported without the opportunity to return.”
Mejia-Canil’s brothers organized GofundMe to raise funds for their lawyers. Read the description: “He is a hardworking man.” “He also needs to support his family and three children. We appreciate your help and support.”
