Officials confirmed that a 72-year-old West Los Angeles woman and dog were killed on Friday evening due to crashing of two vehicles on the 405 highway.
Three people were hospitalized in the collision, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
In addition to the deaths and injuries, the LAFD also said another dog was involved in the crash and fled the scene. As of Friday evening, it was reported to be missing along 405 northbound lanes.
The California Highway Patrol reported a crash on the northbound 405 highway near Wilshire Boulevard around 6:42pm.
Upon arrival, the LAFD crew reported that they had found three patients. One of them was trapped in the car and needed to escape.
In an update at 7:13pm, LAFD identified hospitalized patients as 80-year-old women, 66-year-old men and 60-year-old women.
Children aged 80 and 66 were reported to be in danger, while the 60-year-old woman was in a “fair” state.
LAFD only identified patients who were killed as a 72-year-old woman and did not provide details about the dog’s age, gender, or breed.
At about 8:40pm, Cartlan said on the X-Post that northbound lanes of No. 5 and 6 would be closed for an estimated three hours due to the collision, asking drivers to pay attention.
In an updated update at 10:24pm, Caltrans said all lanes are open.
