Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass on Thursday congratulated the Dodgers on their World Series victory and made sure New York’s mayor made her voice heard.

“As soon as this press conference is over, I will be shipping Dodgers jerseys to my colleagues in New York, Mayor.” [Eric] “Because he lost a bet,” Adams said Thursday.

Adams will have to wear a Dodgers jersey to work for the next few days because of a bet between the mayors of two of America’s largest cities.

The Dodgers defeated the New York Yankees 7-6 on Wednesday night to win the World Series for the first time in five games.

“On behalf of the entire city, I would like to offer our proud and heartfelt congratulations to the Dodgers, our players and their families, our coaches, trainers, front office, and everyone involved in making history last night,” Bass told reporters Thursday. He spoke at a press conference. “Every night, you represented the best of our city and showcased its greatness.”

Although there were arrests and unruly behavior on the streets of Los Angeles Wednesday night, Bass acknowledged that most fans were celebrating peacefully.

“The overwhelming majority of celebrations were joyful and peaceful,” Bass said. “I want to thank the many Angelenos who celebrated peacefully.

Bass then talked about the Dodgers’ celebration scheduled for Friday. Coincidentally, that day was the 64th birthday of the late Fernando Valenzuela.

The mayor said restaurants and stores along the Dodgers parade route downtown will be open Friday and urged parade participants to spend their money at local businesses.

“When you watch the parade or participate in the celebration downtown, be sure to go and patronize a restaurant or local store,” she said. “Spend your money downtown.”
