Los Angeles Democratic Mayor Karen Bass, a critic of President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown, is being laughed out loud for pushing for stories that the LA woman being lured to the ice is said to be an elaborate hoax.

The Department of Homeland Security posted on its official X account on Friday, “Mayor, you’ve hit a hoax. There’s still time to delete this.”

This comes after Juliana Peraes Calderon, a 41-year-old Mexican illegal foreigner in Los Angeles, was accused of conspiracy and making false statements to a federal officer.

On July 1, Bass posted a link to a local news article about the supposed invitation to Calderon, saying, “She is a mother in LA – was taken out of the car on the way to work and hugged her in the warehouse just as the officers wanted her to “self-report.”

“I don’t have hearing, I’m just afraid,” Bass added. “This is no longer safer than anyone.”

After the charges were released, DHS denounced Bass for comments, saying, “Yuriana Julia Pera Escalderon was never arrested or lured by the Ice or the Hunter of Grace.”

RNC Research also commented on X, which also runs the page by the Republican National Committee, saying, “Karen Bass spreads the false narrative demonizing ice agents.”

According to the Justice Department, Calderon claimed he was lured by a man wearing an unmarked car masked uniform in Jack’s parking lot on June 25th. She claimed she was forced to take her to the border and presented it to ice officials who signed a self-report. Calderon said when she refused to sign the documents, she was taken to the warehouse to be held indefinitely.

The Los Angeles Police Department has launched an investigation into the missing person and notified the DHS. DHS began its own investigation after determining that Calderon was not in custody.

According to an affidavit filed in criminal charges against Mexico’s illegal Yuriana Julia Pelaez Calderon, HSI investigators determined that the photographs provided to investigators “pretending to make Calderon appear to be in custody and as if they were abused there.” (DOJ)

During the investigation, the HSI noticed some irregularities, including calls to loved ones that appear to have been made from a phone borrowed by Calderon, being deliberately masked to appear as unknown numbers, apparently made from her mobile phone.

According to the affidavit, Calderon’s forced aid video surveillance showed she quietly left Jack in the box parking lot and entered a nearby sedan. Despite the video showing a prominent LAPD vehicle nearby, Calderon refused to warn the officers that she was in danger.

The affidavit states that “when faced with genuine information that contradicted their inviting stories,” Calderon and others lied to federal agents, saying they “sought to thwart law enforcement efforts” by maintaining a place from law enforcement.

According to a statement from DOJ, HSI agents tracked Calderon until July 5 in the car park at the shopping plaza in Bakersfield, California. The statement said Calderon continued to claim that she was taken to a masked man and detained with others.

Calderon’s daughter also attempted to raise funds from the alleged invitation of Calderon by creating a GoFundMe page.

A GofundMe spokesman told Fox News Digital that the page was deleted and that the family had no access to the money they had collected.

Calderon is in US immigration custody and faces a maximum sentence of five years in federal prison for conspiracy and up to five years for false statements if convicted of charges.

Fox News Digital reached out to Bass’ office for comment but did not receive a response prior to publication.
