Democratic Mayor Michelle Wu after the arrest of an illegal immigrant who used a taxpayer-funded immigrant shelter in a Boston suburb to commit criminal acts, including storing weapons and nearly $1 million worth of drugs. remains silent.

Wu did not respond to repeated requests for comment from Fox News Digital, even though the immigrant shelter involved was a short drive from downtown Boston.

Leonardo Andujar Sanchez, 28, an illegal immigrant from the Dominican Republic, is facing criminal charges in federal court for illegally possessing an AR-15, ammunition and more than 400 grams of fentanyl with intent to distribute, the newspaper said in a statement. . United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts.

Boston 25 News reported that Sanchez was also caught in possession of cocaine with an “estimated street value of at least $750,000.” He is currently in custody by state authorities.

Sanchez kept weapons and drugs in his room at the Quality Inn Hotel, a government-funded migrant shelter in Revere, Massachusetts.

Boston and Massachusetts have both adopted sanctuary policies, and Mr. Wu and Gov. Mole Healey have vowed to resist President-elect Donald Trump’s plans to crack down on illegal immigration.

Despite this, Ms Healy expressed anger over the incident, saying: “It is outrageous that this person took advantage of our shelter system to engage in criminal activity.”

Governor Healey ordered inspections of all shelters, including the Quality Inn Hotel in Revere, and a “total review” of the state’s shelter intake process.

“This further highlights the brokenness of our federal immigration system and the urgent need for Congress and the White House to address border security legislation to prevent criminals from entering our communities,” Healey said. Ta. “Massachusetts should not continue to have to deal with the consequences of federal inaction.”

But Wu remains silent, insisting that Boston’s protection policies “make everyone safer.” FOX News Digital spoke with Wu’s office, but neither she nor her office have responded to Sanchez’s arrest.

Since Trump won the 2024 presidential election, Wu has doubled down on Boston’s status as a sanctuary city, saying police and city officials will not assist federal authorities in deporting it.

Meanwhile, Immigration and Customs Enforcement has seen a recent spike in illegal immigrants being arrested for sex crimes in the Boston area and throughout Massachusetts.

Trump’s next border czar, Tom Homan, accused Wu of vowing to resist the administration’s immigration policies, telling Newsmax in November, “She’s not very smart.”

“President Trump is going to prioritize threats to public safety,” Homan said. “What mayor or governor wouldn’t want public safety threatened by their community? So it’s your first responsibility to protect your community, and that’s exactly what we’re going to do.” That is what we are doing.”
