House minority leader Hakeem Jeffries, DN.Y., confirmed on Sunday that he has not yet supported Zohran Mamdani for the mayor of New York City, and faced doubts as to why he has not yet supported the progressive candidate in his hometown.
Jeffries spoke to Jonathan Carl on ABC’s “this week,” adding that he spoke with Mamdani on Wednesday, congratulating the campaign “being obsessed with the cost of living in New York City and the economy.”
When asked what was preventing her from supporting a mayoral candidate, House minority leaders said he and Mamdani “don’t know each other very well.”
“Our districts don’t overlap. I’ve never had a substantial conversation with him,” he said.

Jeffries said they agreed to sit in “central Brooklyn” soon.

Mamdani faces controversy over many of his statements and positions. The Democratic sociralist website contains housing policy documents that say if he is elected, his administration will “remove tax burdens from the tax burden in the outer borough to more expensive homes in richer, whiter neighborhoods.”
He also faces scrutiny of anti-Israel positions, including support for “boycotts, sale, sanctions” movements targeting the Jewish state. He also said that if he is elected mayor, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will be arrested if he visits the city.

Despite this, Mamdani came to the top in last week’s Democratic mayoral primary, beating rivals such as former governor Andrew Cuomo. In the general election, he will face Republican Curtis Swawa and Mayor Eric Adams, who runs an independent.
