Do you play Mega Million frequently? The National Lottery Jackpot game is about to be overhauled with the promise of bigger awards, better odds and faster growth jackpots if you don’t mind paying a larger ticket price.
Officials for Mega Millis confirmed the pending changes in October and said it will take effect in April. Now we know what those changes entail.
“Beyond the big jackpots, players said they want a bigger non-jackpot award, and that’s exactly what this new game has to offer,” Joshua Johnston, lead director of the Mega Millions Consortium, said in a press release she shared with Nexstar on Tuesday.
There are things that change quickly and what will happen in the current Mega Millions Jackpot.
When will new changes begin?
The final drawing of the game’s current iteration will take place on Friday, April 4th. In other words, the first drawing of the new prize structure is 11pm EST on Tuesday, April 8th.
If you win a non-Jackpot Mega Million Award in your drawing on April 4th, you will receive the current payment award, not the new payment that will take effect on April 8th.
How are the odds improved?
Currently, the chances of getting any of the 9 mega million payouts are 1 in 24. Under the new game structure, there will be a slight improvement by 1/23. This is due to the removal of one Gold Megaball. Currently there are 25 gold balls, but under the new game structure there are 24.
The chances of hitting Mega Millions Jackpot have also been improved. Today, your odds are approximately 1 in 358 million people. Due to the change, the odds will be 1 at 290,472,336. This is again because there is one less megaball, a game official said.
What about the huge ones and the jackpot?
Some states have offered players a jackpot option. For $3, players will receive two plays in the jackpot alone, not all nine available prizes. This option has been deprecated.
Also, it is Megaplier who will be resigning. This is a feature available in some states for an additional $1 which could increase non-jackpot payments. It is becoming a built-in random multiplier.
“All wins other than the jackpot can automatically multiply the Base Prize by 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x or 10x,” the gamer said Tuesday. This will also expand your payment range. Instead of the current non-jackpot award range of $2 million to $1 million, Mega Millions will pay between $10 million and $10 million.
Compared to your current payments, you can see the new prizes below:
The new Mega Millions Awards Matrix, which will take effect from April 8, 2025
The changes will allow Mega Millions players to “win more than they cost to play,” but that’s how it goes.
How are the huge millions of jackpots changing?
Officials say that mega million overhauls will grow more frequently as it leads to faster growing pots.
The Mega Millions jackpot is rising well from its current $20 million starting point, starting at $50 million. This is expected to combine with rising ticket prices to lead to a jackpot that is even more appealing to players.
How much does it cost to play?
Currently, one line of mega million numbers will return to $2, and if you choose Megaprile, it will be an additional $1.
When a new game arrives in April, the same line costs $5. However, as gamers have pointed out, the new minimum non-jackpot award is $10, five times the current lowest award.
“This is the game’s second price adjustment since the first tickets were sold over 20 years ago, and the first change since the current Game Matrix was adopted in 2017,” Mega Millions officials said Tuesday.
What about the current jackpot?
As of Tuesday, the Mega Millions Jackpot is located at an estimated $344 million and has a cash option of $161.5 million. If the jackpot is not acquired during drawing on April 4th, it will get caught in a new game, officials say.
What else should I know?
Mega Millions remains available in the current 45 states, the District of Columbia and the US Virgin Islands. The drawings will be held on Tuesdays and Fridays at 11pm. The benefits received by each local lottery ticket will benefit from the cause that is always beneficial unless the local jurisdiction changes.
The next Mega Millions drawing will be Tuesday at 11pm.
