Mega Millions lottery to improve victory and boost jackpot size

Mega Millions has announced that it will debut a new version of the National Lottery game after the final drawing of the current jackpot scheduled for April 4th.

The new version of the game, played in 45 states, Washington, DC, and the US Virgin Islands, consists of higher priced tickets, larger prizes in all non-jackpot award tiers, better odds for winning jackpots, better odds, larger starting jackpots, and faster growth jackpots.

Joshua Johnston, lead director of the Mega Millions Consortium, which manages lottery tickets, said in a news release that the new changes will increase more than 2-10 times more than the current system.

“Beyond the big jackpots, players said they want a bigger non-jackpot award, and that’s exactly what this new game has to offer,” Johnston said. “Players who win $2 in an old game will take home $10, $15, $20, $25, or $50 in this game. Those who win $500 under the old rules will take home $1,000, $1,500, $2,000, $2,500 or $5,000.”

This is a breakdown of Mega Million’s new prize structure. I plan to draw my first picture on April 8th at 8pm.

The chances of winning are better

The new version of the Mega Millions features 24 gold megaballs, rather than 25 coins, rather than picking out 25 gold megaballs. By removing the Gold Ball, your chances of winning a prize change from 1:24 to 1:23.

Deleting one of the Gold Megaballs increases your chances of winning a jackpot from 1:302,575,350 to 1:290,472,336.

Bigger, faster, more frequent jackpots

Mega Million’s smallest jackpot will reset to $50 million instead of $20 million. Also, jackpots are expected to increase at faster speeds, and may reach higher dollars more frequently.

The Mega Million Consortium estimates that the average jackpot victory will rise from $450 million to $800 million in the new version.

Win more than you can play

The current version of Mega Millions wins the lowest prize on a winning ticket and costs $2 to play. The new game will raise the price to $5, but will set a minimum of $10 on your winning ticket.

Prizes range from $2 million to $1 million to $10 million to $10 million. Winning tickets other than jackpots will automatically increase the Base Prize by 2, 3, 4, 5 to 10 times.

The new version of Mega Millions will remove the $1 “Megaplier” add-on feature available in a particular jurisdiction and replace it with a built-in multiplier.

The current jackpot will roll over to the next game unless someone wins on April 4th.
