The highly anticipated retrial hearing for Lyle and Eric Menendez has been rescheduled due to wildfires in Los Angeles County.
Originally scheduled for Jan. 30 and 31, the county’s top prosecutor announced Friday that the judge will continue the trial to March 20 and 21.
“The continuation of the hearing is due to the recent wildfires impacting the parties’ extensive preparations for the hearing,” a statement from District Attorney Nathan Hochman’s office said.
In October, Los Angeles County District Attorney Gascón recommended re-sentencing the brothers, who were sentenced to life in prison for the 1989 shotgun murders of their parents in their Beverly Hills mansion. Hochman, who defeated Gascón in the November election, met earlier this year with family members who support the outrage.
California prosecutors are considering sentencing the Menendez brothers, who were convicted of killing their parents in 1989, officials announced Thursday.
The deadly Eaton and Palisades fires broke out on January 7 and are two of California’s most destructive fires on record.
