An early morning fire inside Menifie’s tire shop prompted an investigation Monday, leaving behind a trail of damage and chasing five people away.
The flames were reported around 2am Monday as Calfire received a call about a car burning along Highway 74 and 2nd Street.
However, the flame, which was fueled by the large amount of tires in the store, quickly fell out of control. Neighbors said they could see Inferno miles away.
“We could see the flames. They were 20 feet tall. That was bad,” said Miguel Villavicencio, who lives in the area.
Flames has at one point become dangerously close to a family restaurant in Villavicencio. Luckily, it was only damaged by water and smoke, he said.
Firefighters said 13 fire engines and more than 60 firefighters were placed on the challenge of extinguishing the flames.
“The fire was quite a bit in small areas. It was packed tightly,” said Calfire Battalion chief Mike Ballinger. “The firefighters got in there and were able to move around and make sure the fire was trapped.”
However, some homes were damaged, as were the nearby RVs.
The tire shop owners did not say how many cars were serviced inside the store when the fire broke out.
No one was injured in the fire.
