A new subway station will open Sunday near Los Angeles International Airport, prompting service changes for passengers using the Metro C (Green) Line, which runs through the region and the South Bay.
With the opening of the Aviation/Century station at the intersection of Aviation and Century boulevards, the station will become the western terminus of the C Line. The westbound line previously ran south through El Segundo to Redondo Beach.
Four South Bay stations (Mariposa, El Segundo, Douglas, and Redondo Beach) will now be part of the Metro K Line. Westbound C line passengers who wish to continue to South Bay Station will need to exit the C line at the new Aviation/Century station, walk across the platform, and board the southbound K line.

Meanwhile, South Bay passengers heading east toward Norwalk would board a northbound K Line train, exit at the Aviation/Century station, walk across the platform and board an eastbound C Line train.
On the K Line, a rail gap will continue to exist between Aviation/Century Station and the existing Westchester/Veterans Station as construction continues at the LAX/Metro Transit Center station near the airport. Until that station opens, K Line passengers will have to rely on shuttle buses to get around the area. Shuttle buses run every 10 minutes during the day and every 20 minutes at night.
The northern section of the K line currently runs between Westchester/Veterans Station and the E (Expo) line at Crenshaw Boulevard.
When the LAX/Metro Transit Center station opens, tentatively scheduled for late November, the K line will run from Redondo Beach to the E line in Crenshaw. The LAX station will also connect passengers to the future People Mover, which will provide access to the airport terminal.
Metro Ambassadors and TAP staff will be stationed on both the K and C lines during the transition period, as well as at the new Aviation/Century station, to guide passengers to their destinations.
