(Nexstar) – Actress Michelle Trachtenberg has passed away, police sources confirmed Wednesday with multiple entertainment and news publications.
Trachtenberg was reportedly found in an apartment in New York. According to the New York Post, which first reported the news, the death has not been investigated as currently suspected.
The official cause and method of death will be determined following an autopsy by the prosecutor.
She was 39 years old.
Trachtenberg began acting as a child with small commercials and television parts before being cast as Nona F. Mecklenberg in Nickelodeon’s The Adventures of Pete & Pete. Her first major film role came in 1996 when she played the title character in “Harriet The Spy.”
Her fame grew in two major parts of the super popular TV show throughout the 2000s: the first dawn summer of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” and then Georgina sparks with “Gossip Girl.”

Her latest listed acting credits were her return to the “Gossip Girl” character, guest starring in the HBO remake of the 2022 show.
