The National Security Council (NSC) has made clear reports about National Security Advisor Michael Waltz and his staff using personal Gmail accounts for government communication.

A report released by the Washington Post on Tuesday alleged that one of the senior aides at Waltz used Gmail. “Very technical conversations with colleagues from other government agencies, including sensitive military positions and powerful weapons systems associated with ongoing conflict.”

“NSC officials were using his Gmail account, while his inter-ministerial colleagues were using government-issued accounts. Headers for email communication shows,” the post reported.

The film comes a week after Waltz accidentally added Atlantic Editor-in-Chief Jeffrey Goldberg and took responsibility for sensitive signal chats with other officials, including Vice President J.D. Vance.

NSC spokesman Brian Hughes told Fox News on Tuesday that the postreport was an attempt to “deviate the American people from President Trump’s successful national security agenda, which protects our country.”

“Again, NSA Waltz has received email and calendar invitations from his legacy contacts via personal email and CC’D government accounts since January 20th to ensure record keeping compliance.

Hughes said he could not confirm reports of posts about senior NSC officials as journalists “refused to share some of the reported documents.”

“Communications containing classified material must only be transmitted over secure channels and all NSC staff will be notified of this,” the official said. “It has also been revealed that for NSC officials, non-governmental communications must be captured and retained for record-breaking compliance.”

Speaking to a room full of reporters last week, President Donald Trump said he believed the waltz was “doing his best” and did not accuse him of leaking traffic lights.

“I don’t think he should apologise,” the president said. “I think he’s doing his best. It’s equipment and technology that’s not perfect.”

“And perhaps he won’t use it again, not at least in the near future,” Trump continued.
