The Riverside County elementary school student was a huge surprise when he and his military father met again on Tuesday for the first time in months.
Thomas LeGrain didn’t know that teachers at Vanning’s Central Elementary School had participated in it when they planned a surprise visit by their father, which had been deployed overseas for over six months.
Thomas’ father, Michael LeGrain, took a break from his role as a civil engineer in the US Air Force to surprise his only child.
The third graders were speechless for a few seconds as soon as they saw their father’s face. However, after he realized that the man in the military uniform turned out to be his father, Thomas held his father firmly with a big smile on his face.
“He protects people,” Thomas explained his father, admitting that he was proud of his Air Force dad.
Thomas’ grandmother was a key figure in organizing the surprise visit, the family said. When she learns that her son, Michael, is returning from a secret mission abroad, she plans a heartfelt event.
Michael LeGrain has just completed his fourth development, his family said.
