The minor was arrested Friday after the man was killed in a gunshot given to a flare gun, according to the Huntington Beach Police Department.
Officers were called to the intersection of Utica Avenue and Florida Street at 8:40pm to report the shooting. There they find a man suffering from a gunshot wound and rushes him to a nearby hospital, where he later dies.
Police have chosen not to disclose the victim’s identity while continuing to notify their family at this point. What led to the shooting was not clear.
The suspect, who was described as a “male boy,” fled the scene after the shooting, but was quickly found by an officer. His name is withheld due to his age, which has not been revealed. Police were able to retrieve weapons related to the incident.
Huntington Beach law enforcement said the suspect was booked at Orange County Boys Hall on suspicion of murder. It is unclear whether there is a lawyer who can speak on his behalf.
The investigation is underway. Anyone with information about the case is advised to contact the detective sergeant. Anthony Pham, 714-878-5640. Anonymous tips can be created by contacting OC Crime Stoppers at 855-847-6227.
