The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is closing its diversity, equity and inclusive office following a comprehensive assessment that began nearly 18 months ago.
MIT’s president of Sally Kornbluth announced the closure or “sunset” of the Institute Community and Equity Office (ICEO) last Thursday.
“As I’ve said many times, MIT is in the talent business,” reads Kornbluth’s announcement. “Our success depends on attracting extremely talented people from all over the world, from all over the world, and on the fact that everyone at MIT feels welcome and supported.
Among the top priorities listed in the note entitled “How to Support Our Community” is the section in the header, “The Core Program will continue, but the Central ICEO.” ”

“The process began almost 18 months ago,” a university spokesperson told Fox News Digital, saying the decision followed the institute’s “comprehensive assessment.”
Billed online as the custodian of “MIT values and their interconnections,” the ICEO claimed that they built a community “through programming that adopts, celebrates and supports the diversity of MIT.”

MIT also eliminates the role of Vice President for equity and inclusion, Kornbluth confirmed.
Earlier this month, the school abolished the diversity pledge in its first employment and admissions process for its class. This is a practice that has been condemned by the free speech advocate organization Fire as functioning as a “ideological litmus test.”

The MIT decision comes shortly after the Trump administration’s official feud with nearby Harvard University. This includes requests to withdraw all recent federal funds.
This comes after Harvard University showed that the president has shown little shaking in standoffs with the president on charges of foreign students enrolling and racial-based admission.

However, MIT has been downscaled its DEI infrastructure for some time. A university spokesman denied a correlation between Harvard University and the ongoing political conflict involving the end of Ice Mise.
