Republican Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) has pushed back against the Senate’s confirmation of President Donald Trump’s pick to lead the Pentagon, Pete Hegseth, citing a lack of experience and concerns about past comments about women. I have no intention of supporting it.
Several Republican senators remained cautious about Hegseth’s nomination after he came under fire from members of the Armed Services Committee during his confirmation hearing in January.
“While we appreciate his brave military service and continued commitment to service members and their families, we believe he does not have the experience or perspective necessary to be successful in his mission,” Collins said in a statement. “His limited management experience included running two small non-profit organizations with decidedly mixed results,” Collins wrote in a lengthy social media post. “I am also concerned about statements Mr. Hegseth has made about women’s military service, including in the months immediately before his nomination.
