Mom saved the dress, and 22 years later her daughter wore it to the wedding – NBC Los Angeles

For over 20 years, custom red am sale gowns have been hung uninterrupted in Allison Winscotch’s closet. This is a relic from the 2003 brothers’ wedding. This spring I found a new life.

“I never let it go. The craftsmanship was very meticulous and so beautiful,” Scotch, the bestselling novelist of the New York Times, tells Today.com.

She proposed a two-piece design after being disappointed with the pink dress 18-year-old Amelia ordered online. With formal dance approaching, high school seniors in Los Angeles were beginning to worry about what she would choose for the big night.

“For weeks I’ve been telling my mother that I want a red dress with a kind of accent,” Amelia says. However, when the author of “Rewind” pulled out the old Ruby Amsar bridesmaid gown, Amelia admitted that she wasn’t sold immediately.

“She showed it to me, and I was like, ‘No,'” recalls Amelia.

That was the reaction Scotch had expected, despite the dress checking all Amelia’s boxes.

“I think most parents are hesitant to share their aesthetics, knowing that they will probably meet keen corn,” laughs Scotch.

But Amelia decided to give it a try – because it was the exact color she was looking for, so why? She had nothing to lose.

As Amelia stepped into her dress, Scotch held her breath, hoping for the flicker of recognition to her daughter’s face. And it’s here.

“It was perfect,” Amelia says.

On the evening of the prom, Amelia completed the look with the same silver and diamond necklace that her mother wore in strapless sheath at her brother’s New York City wedding.

“It’s nice to hold on to these pieces and they actually find a new life,” Scotch says.

After Scotch shared the photos on the thread, one of her own dressed in 2003 and another of Amelia in 2025 – went viral and won thousands of likes.

“I think this is the first time a bridesmaid dress has been reused despite its frequent repeats, but at other events this can be reused!”

Another “Beautiful Times Two!” has been added.
