After a large furry intruder entered Monrovia’s house, a small dog, facing a bear over the weekend, confronted the bear.
Surveillance footage was taken of a small dog barking a black bear after entering the Valley View Avenue home. Strangely enough, the bear bows its head to smell the dog as the dog continues to bark, then the puppy leaves and the bear continues to explore the house.
The bear in the video had a noticeable tracker around his neck. This means that it could have broken and breached before.
“I’ve seen this bear come several times,” said Lily Martinez, who lives in the area. “It not only went straight into the neighbor’s neighbor, but it also unloaded two doors to the neighbor’s house, went into the kitchen, had ice cream and pizza, and then obviously entered the pool.”
Neighbors in the community were spotted walking around the neighborhood on Saturday and roaming the neighborhood during the day. They believe it is the same animal that broke into the house later that night.
“This is part of living here,” said Austin Hart, who lives in the area. “We were really close to the mountains and they were here first. But fortunately, they were all really friendly and came here.”
Wildlife officials are embarrassingly reminding us that it is now a time when black bears in California are searching for food, and that it is often an easy-to-get place. They advise people living in the hills to close their doors, use bear-resistant garbage containers, and keep them away from wildlife when they see them.
