The popular Dodgers Shortstop Mookie Betts will return to the field Tuesday night after an undiagnosed illness has sidelined him since March 9th.
Betts told reporters he lost 18 pounds in two weeks on Sunday and is struggling to keep solid food under control.
According to general manager Dave Roberts, he traveled to Japan with his team for the exhibition series, but returned Earl.
Roberts said he thought Betts “turned the corner” before Monday’s 5-4 defeat.
“I spoke to him (and he) said he felt good on his way home and was hoping he would play on Tuesday,” Roberts said. “We’re in a good place right now.”
“I just want to play,” Betts told reporters last week. “I’m tired of sitting down and throwing it, I’m tired of doing all this. I just want to play.”
The eight-time All-Star played 116 games throughout the 2024 season, batting .289 with 130 hits and 19 home runs.
Betts isn’t the only Dodger to deal with health concerns. Another franchise’s cornerstone, Freddie Freeman, was removed from the Tokyo Series due to prolonged rib discomfort. He returned to the lineup on Sunday, but Roberts emphasized that the team will move forward with him in great detail.
Tuesday’s first pitch will be the third and final game of the Spring Training Freeway series, thrown at Angel Stadium at 6:07pm.
The Dodgers will perform the Detroit Tigers in the Chavez Valley on opening day at 4:10pm on Thursday
