To Goldstar’s families and service members who have died in “service-related illnesses or service-related incidents,” “benefits to withstand the Belo’s Act” applies to training accidents, serious illnesses, or injuries across the United States.
Now, Gold Star families and veterans can get a free lifetime pass, just like those with “permanent disabilities” regardless of their military status.

The law was named after the late First U.S. Army Sergeant Mark Bello, who died of cancer in May 2024 in connection with military service. Belo is R-Colo, sponsoring the bill, including its 2012 rollout.
“I am proud to present the Belos Act in honor of my dear friend and fellow Solidar Sergeant Mark Belo,” Evans told Fox News Digital in a statement.
“Mark was a giant. He was a true leader, role model and the godfather of flying in our unit. When Mark passed away last year, he left a hole in the hearts of everyone who knew him.

For current education, the pass will be provided as part of National Parks Services and operational efforts, but the bill will amend the Federal Land Recreation Enhancement Act beyond those who died in the usual “eligible circumstances” determined by Gold Star families.

The bill is co-hosted by D-Calif Rep. Jimmy Panetta and has been featured to the House Natural Resources Committee and the House Agriculture Committee.
