25 Pacific Palisade residents affected by the deadly brush fire in January joined the lawsuit against the Bureau of Power over the city of Los Angeles and the Los Angeles disaster.
The lawsuit filed on behalf of 23 residents in January accusing the city and department of failing water systems to coastal communities destroyed by the flames. On Wednesday, 25 more plaintiffs were added to the complaint.
The lawsuit alleges that LADWP designed a water supply system that did not have enough water pressure to combat urban wildfires. He also said the Santay Nez Reservoir, located above Pacific Palisade, has been empty since February last year, making it more difficult to access the water during the fire service.
Following the fire, LADWP urged independent engineers to assess whether empty reservoirs contributed to the failure of the water system during the Palisade fire.
NBC4 has contacted the mayor’s office to comment on the issue and has not responded. LADWP said it had not commented on the pending lawsuit.
LA County joined dozens of Eaton fire victims in suing Edison in Southern California. The power company’s power lines or equipment claims it is responsible for setting the fire on January 7th.
Separately, Los Angeles County has filed a lawsuit against Edison in Southern California over the Eton fire in Altadena. The complaint alleges the fire was “a direct beginning of Eton Canyon’s SCE transmission line.”
The causes of both fires are still under investigation.
