The family officially welcomed the new member Wednesday at an adoption completion event in San Bernardino.
There were smiles and tears of joy at the Ontario Convention Center as families celebrated the adoption of more than 100 children. Photo opportunities were arranged, adoptions were decided, and refreshments were served during the celebration.
Among the family members who soaked up the emotional glow of the event were fiancée Meshawn and Sayisha Davis. The couple were overjoyed to officially recognize 19-month-old Jonathan as a Davis player.
“I can’t even express it in words,” an emotional Meshawn said.
Meshawn told NBC4 that adoption is especially meaningful to them because it comes after years of struggling to have a child of their own. Baby Jonathan was placed in the couple’s home last August and they connected immediately.
“I looked at him and thought, ‘Oh my God,’ and he had those puppy cheeks and that big old smile,” Saisha said. “I said, ‘I’m in love.’ I’m in love.’ With the first smile he wrapped his fingers around me.”
Now, the family is looking forward to creating new holiday traditions with their baby boy.
This heartwarming event was hosted by San Bernardino County Children and Family Services and the California Superior Court and San Bernardino County Juvenile Dependency Court.
