Detroit Lions Safety Morris Norris shared a social post on Saturday and said he appreciated people for their support after leaving the field in an ambulance late in his preseason game with the Atlanta Falcons.
Norris reposted a screenshot about his gratitude along with his biblical verse and added his own message.
“Amen Amen,” he posted on his Instagram story.
“I don’t stress all good guys,” he said.
Norris was in stable condition after attending a healthcare worker late Friday night for about 20 minutes and being taken to a hospital in Atlanta.
Norris, 24, was hurt in a preseason match with 14:50 left after attacking Falcon, who ran over Nathan Carter. He faces the middle of the running back and hits Carter with a face mask, helping the tackle before heading back.
When play resumed, Atlanta quarterback Emory Jones stood at the line of scrimmage as the clock continued to run, snapping the ball.
“We usually have a couple trainer out there,” Lions quarterback Kyle Allen said. “When they pull out the stretcher, that’s never a good thing.”
With 6:31 remaining in the fourth quarter, officials announced that the game was suspended “by New York” and that the Lions are leading the Falcons 17-10.
Detroit coach Dan Campbell and Atlanta coach Raheem Morris have decided not to finish the game.
“Raheem Morris is a class act,” Campbell said. “He’s the ultimate class act. We agreed that we didn’t feel it was right to finish that game.”
The former Fresno State standout Norris played eight games last season after winning spots with the team as an undrafted rookie.
The NFL preseason game ended early two years in a row.
New England’s game in Green Bay in the second week of the 2023 preseason was cancelled when Patriot cornerback Isaiah Bolden was carried in the fourth quarter. Bolden appeared to be in a conflict with his teammate Calvin Manson. Bolden was taken to hospital and released the following day.
A week later, the match between Miami and Jacksonville was not completed after dolphin receiver Daewood Davis was carried into the fourth quarter. Davis was injured while running a sloping route and was about to catch a pass when he was hit by Jaguars linebacker Deccan Jackson. Davis was released from the hospital a day later.
The two horrific injuries occurred eight months after Buffalo Bill’s safety safety, and Damahmlin had to be revived on the field during a regular season game in Cincinnati in January 2023.
“You sign up for football, you understand the risks, you understand the risks of injuries,” Allen said. “You don’t think that’s going to happen. At the end of the day we’re here as football players. We may be on 32 different teams, but we’ve all played football for the rest of our lives and have gone through it with our own injuries.”
