Santa Ana Police arrested a 48-year-old woman who believed she would die by stabbing her preteen son in a local motel Wednesday morning.
Santa Ana Police Department spokesman Natalie Garcia said the mother was taken into custody without incident shortly after calling police at 9:25am to report that she had killed her son.
Police say the woman, who has not been released, was initially taken into custody in the hallway outside the room where she and her son were staying.
However, her mother told police that she had ingested a large amount of unknown substance. She was taken to a local hospital instead, where she remained in custody in a stable state.
The 11-year-old boy was declared dead. Garcia said police recovered the knife at the scene.
Police believe the incident is “an isolated incident,” Garcia said, with no other suspects involved.
The hotel was still locked down by police at 2pm when it searched the room.
Anyone with information will be asked to call Santa Ana Police at Orange County Crime Stoppers, (714) 245-8000 or (855) TIP-OCC.
