During a wild pursuit Monday, a carjack suspect hit two police cars, one attacking a nearby home and rolling the stolen vehicle, authorities said.
Officials at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Lakewood Station said they answered a call Monday afternoon regarding carjacking in the 8800 block of Alondra Boulevard.
Deputies found a stolen vehicle driven by suspects in the area and believed the suspect was armed, officials said. That’s when the car began pursuing.
While chasing a car that was about 10 miles to Carson, the deputies moved into “monitor mode.” This means the suspect retreated in the hopes of slowing down, officials said. Police can switch from aggressive pursuits when drivers are speeding or behaving irregularly.
The suspect was tailed by deputies and wip the semi truck sideways, but continued driving. After hitting the truck, officials said the suspect intentionally plunged the vehicle into two separate, marked patrol vehicles.
The suspect then crashed the car they were in, rolled it and landed on the roof.
According to the KTLA, the pursuit ended at the intersection of Broadway and South Main Street in Carson. The suspect was then taken into custody. The officials did not provide any additional details about the person.
KTLA helicopter video showed one of the patrol vehicles that the suspect crashed into a nearby home.
Lakewood officials said two deputies in the hit car were injured. One was treated on site, and the other was taken to a local hospital with moderate injuries.
Authorities did not provide information on whether a resident of the home or another person was injured during the pursuit or when the crash was dropped.
