At least 11 people were injured in “multiple stinging incidents” on Saturday at Walmart in Traverse City, Michigan, officials said.
The suspect is in custody, Michigan State Police said in X.
Additional details regarding the incident were not available immediately.
Eleven people are undergoing treatment at Manson Medical Center, Katherine Dewey said at the medical center. She said staff are still assessing the victim’s condition and the nature of their wounds.
It was not immediately clear whether there would be more casualties.
A state police spokesman could not clarify whether the shooting occurred and was not sure if there were multiple suspects.
The Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident, state police said.
A Walmart spokesperson said the company is working with police and has postponed questions to authorities.
The FBI is in response to the incident and can “provide the Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office with the necessary assistance,” FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino said in X.
Traverse City is approximately 255 miles northwest of Detroit.
