Elon Musk, who heads the government’s Department of Efficiency (DOGE), warned federal workers on Monday morning that those who have not returned to their offices will be on administrative leave.
“People who ignored the president’s executive order to return to President Trump’s workplace have received more than a month of warning,” Musk wrote on X, the platform he owns. “From this week onwards, those who have not yet returned to office will be on administrative leave.”
The mask warning comes after federal employees announced Saturday that they must report their performance last week or lose their jobs.
Musk said on Saturday he would receive an email instructing federal employees to list their achievements from the previous week, adding later that day that the challenges should take up to five minutes to achieve. Employees will be required to send lists or lose employment until 11:59pm on Monday, according to an email about Musk’s order sent by the Human Resources Administration.

The eve of the deadline was a massive disruption as some agencies resisted the order, others encouraged workers to follow, and others provided conflicting guidance.
Several major US agencies, including the FBI, the State Department, Homeland Security and the pentagon, have instructed employees not to follow over the weekend.
The Department of Health and Human Services, led by Robert F. Kennedy Jr., directed about 80,000 employees to comply with their employees shortly after representing their general counsel, Sean Kevenny. On Sunday evening, agency leadership issued new instructions that employees should “suspend activities” until noon Monday.
Officials from the state, defense and Homeland Security were more consistent.
The State Department told employees Saturday that department officials would “respond on behalf of the department,” according to a message sent by Ambassador Tibor P. Nagy, who is acting under the Secretary of State for management.
Elon Musk says federal employees must fill out or resign in productivity reports
The Department of Defense (DOD) has told the civilian workforce to ignore billionaires’ demands, but Kash Patel, who was confirmed in the Senate last week as the new FBI director, told employees to stand up .
Musk and Doji have been criticised for how they cut federal spending, but on Saturday President Donald Trump said true socially “Masks are “doing a great job” and “more aggressive.” It says that it should be.
“Elon does a great job, but I want to see him become more aggressive. Remember, we have a country to save, but in the end it’s bigger than ever. It’s going to happen. Maga!” writes Trump.
