They found it funny at first, but the Orange County family is now trying to get the attention of Amazon and stop the ongoing influx of mysterious packages arriving at their front door.
David Lopez said packages, usually full of dresses, began arriving one or two at a time at her mother Santa Ana’s home in January.
“I’m over 50 now and have six more,” Lopez said. “Some are very pretty, while others aren’t that pretty.”
Lopez told KTLA’s Angeli Kakade that her mother was confused at first, and she didn’t order a dress and asked her neighbors to help her find the owner.
“Now, it’s just clogging their front door,” Lopez said. “Every time they open the door, they have a new package every morning.”
Lopez and his partner Julian Guzman said they were trying to reach Amazon for unnecessary mail.
“It feels like a kind of e-commerce wasteland where Amazon sellers don’t want to deal with the delivery and handling of these returns,” Guzman said.
However, Lopez believes the package is part of an insurance fraud scheme.
“They say they’ve never received the package so they can claim something on Amazon,” Lopez speculated.
In a statement to KTLA, Amazon said: “We are looking at this and we will work directly with our customers to find a solution.”
Meanwhile, Lopez and Guzman are trying to turn strange situations into good ones.
“We want to put them in our clothing bags and donate them to our local organization,” Guzman explained.
They also said they wanted to share their stories and that people know what to do if the mystical package ends at their gateway.
“I hope that this kind of kind of people will educate you a little about the dangers of this kind of thing, especially with scams and opening packages that don’t belong to you, as there may be greater risks at some point,” Lopez said.
