Rep. Jerry Nadler, DN.Y., criticized the Trump administration for “disturbance” in the community while announcing that members of his staff were handcuffed and briefly detained in his New York City office.

Federal Protection Agency (FPS) officials responded to reports Wednesday that protesters were inside the Nadler district office in Manhattan. At the time, protests were being held outside the immigration court, which was in the same facility as the lawmaker’s office.

“Based on previous incidents at a nearby facility, FPS officials were concerned about the safety of federal employees at the office and went there to ensure the safety and welfare of the attendees,” a Homeland Security spokesperson told Fox News Digital.

The officer was put inside and met four people, the spokesman said.

“The officers identified themselves and explained their intention to carry out security checks, but one individual was verbally confronted and physically blocked access to the office, the spokesman added. Everything was released without further incident.”

In a video of the arrest posted online, officers heard Nadler staff say they are “holding a mob” and that they are making checks. The arrested staff can hear them crying during the incident.

In a statement released Saturday, Nadler said DHS officials entered his office “strongly” before handcuffing members of his staff.

“President Trump and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) are sowing mixed chaos in our communities using intimidation tactics against both citizens and non-citizens in reckless and dangerous ways,” Nadler said.

“The decision to enter the council office and detain staff indicates that it is a sign of neglecting appropriate legal boundaries,” he added. “If this could happen with members of the Congressional office, it could happen to anyone and that’s happening,” Nadler said in part.

Nadler also urged Trump and the DHS to halt “these dangerous tactics” and abandon the rapid removal process.

“No arrests were made and the situation quickly cleared, but I am wary of the offensive and forceful tactics that DHS employs in New York City and across the country,” he said.
