White House trade adviser Peter Navarro dispels concerns about the feud between him and billionaire Elon Musk, claiming that the two administrative advisers have a “great” relationship.
“First of all, Elon and I are great. That doesn’t matter,” Navarro said when he appeared on NBC News’ Meet the Press on Sunday.
The comments came after Navarro and Musk were intertwined in the public war of words after Navarro said in an interview last week that Tesla of Musk is more of a “car assembler” than a “car maker” that relies on parts of other countries.

“We all understand that in the White House (and Americans understand), Elon is an automaker. But he is not an automaker. He is a car assembler,” Navarro told CNBC. “Many times, when you go to his Texas factory, the majority of the engines he gets (in the case of EVs, there’s a battery) comes from Japan and comes from China. The electronics come from Taiwan.”
This point seems to have not sat well with the musk he took to X to protect his car company.
“Navarro is really stupid. What he’s saying here is clearly wrong,” Musk said.
“Tesla has the most American-made cars. Navarro is more ridiculous than a brick bag,” Musk added in a later post.

However, Navarro downplayed Sunday’s public war and praised Musk’s contribution to the Trump administration.
“Eron is all fine,” Navarro said. “And look, Elon does a very good job with his team in waste, fraud, abuse. It’s a huge contribution to America. And anyone doing that should not be exposed to bombing his car by insanity.”

The White House has also downplayed concerns among them, claiming that Press Secretary Caroline Leavbitt shows President Donald Trump is willing to hear very different views at the highest level.

“These are clearly two individuals who have very different views on trade and tariffs. The boys will be boys. We will continue to sparr their public,” she said at a press conference last week. “Everyone should be extremely grateful that we have the most transparent government in history.”
