The Navy pilot was safely discharged from an instant of an F-35 jet Wednesday evening before crashing into a cotton field in Fresno County with a fiery flame. The crash occurred around 6:30pm and not far from Lemore, Navy Air Station, the US Navy said in a statement.
The remains of the military’s jet zone were burned as deputies for Fresno County Sheriff’s Office, paramedics, firefighters and officers of the California Highway Patrol. Emergency officials on the ground have found a pilot carrying a parachute on a nearby field, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office announced in a Facebook post.
A helicopter transported the pilot to the hospital for evaluation.
“He’s expected to be fine,” the sheriff’s office said.
Video footage shared by the Sheriff’s Office showed that using a bulldozer, firefighters could clear the road to the jet plane and drive to the wreckage to put out the fire.
According to the Navy, the F-35 jet was attached to a Strike Fighter Squadron 125, also known as the “Rough Raiders.”
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
