The boxing match between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson was a memorable one. The highly anticipated boxing match between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson has already secured its place in the record books.

According to Netflix, Jake Paul’s defeat of Mike Tyson was watched by 60 million households around the world, with the event reaching 65 million streams at its peak. The subscription streaming service also announced that 50 million households watched the match between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano, making it the most-watched women’s professional sports event in U.S. history.

The game was also streamed in more than 6,000 bars and restaurants in the United States, setting a record for the sport’s largest commercial broadcast.

“The boxing mega-event took social media by storm, smashing records and even putting buffering systems at risk,” Netflix posted on X Saturday.

The fight’s promoter, Most Valuable Promotions, which is co-owned by Paul, told CNBC that 72,300 people attended Friday night’s fight at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Dallas Cowboys Stadium has a capacity of 80,000 people.

According to promoters, the match grossed more than 18 million yen in gate revenue.

It was the largest boxing gate in history outside of Nevada. The previous record was $9 million in ticket revenue for the Canelo Alvarez vs. Billy Joe Saunders fight at AT&T Stadium in 2021.

MVP said the gate is higher than any other UFC fight outside of Las Vegas, with the exception of Conor McGregor vs. Eddie Alvarez, which took place in New York in 2016.

The fight dominated the social conversation, with #PaulTyson becoming the #1 trending topic on X (formerly Twitter).

But it wasn’t all good news for Netflix. Many viewers experienced buffering issues, streaming glitches, and low-resolution video that made it difficult to watch the match.

People were reporting problems overnight, with outages peaking at more than 95,000 at around 11 p.m. ET, according to Downdetector data.

MVP co-founder Nakisa Bidalyan said on CNBC’s “Closing Bell” on Friday that Tyson and Paul will earn eight figures in this fight, and Taylor and Serrano will also earn a record-breaking 100,000 points in women’s boxing history. He said he would get paid.

The fight between Paul, a 27-year-old YouTube influencer turned boxer, and boxing legend Tyson, 58, aired for free on Netflix.

The event also featured one of the most anticipated rematches in women’s boxing history, undisputed super lightweight champion Katie Taylor versus unified featherweight champion Amanda Serrano.

Netflix has more than 283 million paid members in more than 190 countries. The bout was an important test for streamers as boxing eschews the pay-per-view model and moves deeper into the sports arena.

“The numbers don’t lie,” Paul said during Wednesday’s game press conference. “People want to see this and this is an amazing accomplishment. … This marks the fact that we have the largest live gate outside of Las Vegas in U.S. boxing history.”

Tickets for Friday’s game ranged from about $58 to $1,500 each on StubHub. MVP also sells higher-end packages, including a $2 million VIP Experience that comes with ringside seats. The promotion company announced that all 375 VIP seats have been sold out.

For comparison, the biggest fight in Las Vegas history took place in 2015 between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao. The fight cost more than $72 million, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
