Canada’s newly minted Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney rebelled against the notion that Canada will become the 51st state of America amid tensions over a full trade war between its neighbours.
Carney spoke to reporters after taking office on Friday, shooting down the bold and controversial idea that President Donald Trump called the daring and controversial idea that he had promoted “crazy.”
“We will never be part of the United States in any way, in shape or form,” Carney said.
He said Canada is sovereignty with its own values and traditions, and Trump needs to show more respect for the nation.

He was asked about Secretary of State Marco Rubio. He said Trump’s position would be better for Canada to join the US, Carney said Rubio’s point is crazy.
“That’s crazy,” Carney said. “The point of him is crazy. That’s all.”
Trump says annexation of Canada will prevent the country from accepting penalizing trade tariffs. Trump claims that the US subsidizes Canada to $200 billion a year, and that the US began to impose 25% tariffs from Canada and Mexico last week.
Two days later, Trump has been subject to a 25% tariff on most products from Canada and Mexico under the US-Canada Agreement (USMCA) for a month. Trump has placed a 25% tariff on Canadian steel and aluminum, threatening cleaning fees on all Canadian products on April 2nd.
Trump has long said that, like Canada and Mexico, he has failed to do anything enough to prevent the flow of illegal immigration and drugs, particularly fentanyl.
Carney said he has no immediate plans to meet President Trump, but he looks forward to doing so. He also addressed Trump’s concerns about Canada.

“We respect President Trump,” Carney said. “President Trump has some very important issues at the very top of his agenda. Understanding his agenda understands the importance of dealing with the fentanyl tragedy, which is a challenge in Canada and the United States.
“And I think the measures introduced in Mexico in Canada, Mexico and the US also mean that we are making great strides.”
Carney said he understands the importance that President Trump places on American workers and American jobs.
“And we want him and his administration to understand the importance we put on Canadian workers and work in Canada,” Carney said.
“And we look for a way to work together, as we do, so that both goals, both objectives are met in terms of our great economics.
Trump directly raised the idea of a merger to former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau when the pair met at Mar-a-Lago in late November, according to Fox’s news source. Trump has also proposed annexing Greenland.

Former Goldman Sachs executive, Carney worked in London, Tokyo, New York and Toronto for 13 years before being appointed lieutenant governor of the Bank of Canada in 2003. Carney ran the Bank of Canada from 2008 to 2013 and the Bank of England from 2013 to 2020.
He has never been elected to public office by Canadian voters and has no seat in Parliament. He won a liberal leader with 86% of the votes last week after Trudeau stopped.
