Domingo Hindeyan, the leading conductor of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, will take over as music director for Los Angeles Opera next year.
Hindeyan will replace James Conlon, who has held the Post since 2006 and announced that he will resign in 2026.
The Hindija are familiar with La Opera and made his debut in November last year in collaboration with the company to produce Gounod’s “Roméoet Juliette.”

I felt a strong connection with the company’s extraordinary musicians, staff and spirit. It is a privilege to follow Maestro James Conlon. Its legacy shapes La Opera as it is today – a dynamic and ambitious institution.

I look forward to shaping the future seasons, working with local artists, encouraging world-leading creative voices and deepening connections with our audience across the city,” he said.
HINDOYAN’s contract with LA Opera begins on July 1, 2026 and continues from 2030 to 31.
He has been Chief Conductor of the Liverpool Philharmonic since 2021. He previously served as the main guest conductor of the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, conducting opera productions at Lyric Opera in Chicago, the Berlin Opera, the Vienna State Opera, Paris Den Opera, Dresden Den Den Den Den Den Den Den Den Den Den Den Emperper Opera and the Opera Opera of Drenden Den Den Den Den Emperper. He also leads orchestras such as the Los Angeles Philharmonic, BBC Symphony, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, Boston Symphony, Cleveland Orchestra, Minnesota Orchestra, San Diego Symphony and Detroit Symphony.
“I first met Domingo Hindujan at the Berlin State Opera in 2016 and was immediately impressed by the fluidity of his techniques and the clarity and conducting of his musical ideas,” Christopher Korsch, president and CEO of LA Opera, said in a statement. “I have seen him with admiration since then, as his career flourished in many great European opera houses.
“Our search process was thorough and inclusive, with involved board members, civic leaders and representatives of orchestras. We looked at dozens of exceptional candidates from around the world, and it has been revealed that Domingo not only brings exceptional musical and symphonic fluency through our conversations and his artistry, but also brings to portray his creative warmth and charisma.
Conlong also welcomed his choice as a successor to the Hindeja people.
“After spending 20 years with this incredible company and helping me solidify my position in the cultural life of Los Angeles and the international opera stage, I have especially been sharing my passion for opera and communicated to those who know that I always see it as a relevant spiritual force,” Conlon said in a statement.
