While California’s Democratic government, Gavin Newsom, sparked controversy last week by breaking out of the party’s stance on transgender women in sports, his professional transgender legislative records suggest that his comments were “calculated” and that the likelihood of a presidential bid in 2028 appears to be more moderate.
“This is all very calculated to pave the path of the president’s run on his side,” told Fox News Digital in an interview with Fox News Digital, California lawyer and trustee of the Palos Verdes Verdes Unified School District.
“He clearly wants to be president. If you want to be president, you have to convince most of the country that you are moderate,” said Hamill, who previously worked as the U.S. Department of Justice’s Department of Justice’s Department of Justice for victims of overseas terrorism.

The protection of trans athletes was signed in 2013 under former Democratic Gov. Jerry Brown, but Newsom has been carrying its torch since taking office in 2019, passing several laws codified certain protections for trans people and procedures in the state.
“And he’s the one who can lead the party and he wants to not reveal our facts about how people like me and people like California have governed this state, he’s trying to sell himself to Democrats across the country in a more liberal state that he’s the one who leads their party,” Hamill said.
In 2020, Newsom signed a law that would allow trans prisoners to be housed in facilities that match their gender identity, not their biological gender. The law also requires inmates to be dealt with by preference pronouns and searches performed by individuals who match the inmate’s gender identity.
In September 2022, California became the first state to declare it a sanctuary for transgender youth, providing legal protection to out-of-state minors seeking surgical and hormonal treatment.
After launching several lawsuits against California school districts, Newsom signed a law last year prohibiting school staff being mandatory to inform parents about their students’ transgender status, as it opposed a notification policy that conceals a student’s gender identity from parents.

“The suicide rates for children identified as trans are very high, and after treatment is done, they are high,” Hamill said of Support Academic Futures for Today’s Youth (Safety) Act and educators.
“So you know, his claim that you care about these kids is an absolute bull,” she said. “We cannot hide information. We cannot hide critical information from our children’s parents about what their children are experiencing at school.”

In a federal lawsuit against the Department of Education, Hamill “represents a fifth-grade girl who is said to have to accept room allocations at a one-night science camp with someone who identifies as a woman but is not actually a woman. She said Newsom “as a leader in the California party, he has the ability to repeal or amend these laws.”
“And if he doesn’t do that, these schools, the subject of my Title IX complaints, will lose their federal funds,” she said. “And when that happens, we’re going to see Newsom and the Democrats blaming evil Republicans for stealing federal funds.”

In the debut episode of his new podcast, This Is Gavin Newsom, Newsom told conservative activist and founder of TPUSA Charlie Kirk that he agreed that the biological men in sports were “deeply unfair” last week. His comments sparked anger between his LGBTQ supporters and the progressive aspects.
Kirk asked Newsom, “As governor, you should go out and say no. Do you do that? Are you a man in female sports?”
“Well, I think it’s a matter of fairness,” Newsom replied. “I totally agree with you. That’s deeply unfair.”
Trump signed an executive order in February entitled “Turning Men out of Women’s Sports.” This said trans athletes in women’s sports were “depressing, unfair and dangerous for women and girls.” The order requires an agency that receives federal funds to comply with Title IX and to follow the definition of biological sex.

A day later, the NCAA, which oversees university sports, began banning it. And now it’s preventing trans athletes from hindering school sports.
Newsom pointed out that he has four children, including two daughters, highlighting that both he and his wife played college level sports.
“I respect sports, so the issue of fairness is completely legal,” Newsom said.
