Police announced Saturday that they had discovered two-height $2.1 million sculptures stolen during a brave art robbery in Anaheim last weekend.
“Thanks to community tips, the sculpture was discovered last night at an Anaheim home,” a spokesman for the Anaheim Police Department said. “No arrests have been made yet, but they want to thank the community for their support.”
Police say theft occurred on June 14 or 15 at a warehouse near Tustin Avenue and the 91 highway, and investigators believe heavy equipment, including a forklift, was used to carry it out.
“Due to the nature of the stolen items, it looks like someone knew they were there and went there with purpose,” Sgt. Matt Sutter, spokesman for APD. “This doesn’t happen very often here in Anaheim. It’s a relatively quiet area.”
The stolen sculptures created by renowned artist and filmmaker Daniel Wynn are not only extremely valuable, but also very heavy. According to the artist’s representative, one of the pieces weighs about 2,000 pounds, while the other is even heavier at 4,000 pounds.

The Los Angeles Times reported that Wynn believed the work could have been stolen by a crude collector, but that art experts suspect it would be destroyed due to scrap metal.
“Usually, these sculptures require about 12 men to move it when they are exhibited, and two forklifts and a flatbed or truck carrying it,” Wynn told the Times. “This is not an easy task.”
According to the Times, Winn is a Vietnamese refugee who owns Winsrabin Fine Art Gallery on Rodeo Drive and was appointed as the art committee member at John Wayne Airport earlier this month. He is considered a blue chip artist. This means that his work is highly sought after and has high monetary value.
“These are my children,” he said in the age of individual works. “I don’t have any physical, organic kids. All the artwork I create is my kids.”
The extraordinary theft raised concerns about warehouse security, particularly in industrial areas that house high-value items. Police are urging local businesses to install surveillance cameras or security systems to prevent similar crimes in the future.
