President Donald Trump has sent 2,000 National Guard soldiers to Los Angeles to prevent repeated unrest in 2020 when immigrant protests plunged into riots and the Democratic governor of Minnesota “burning the city.”
Noem worked on the deployment of the National Guard when he appeared on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” saying Trump has the safety of the community and law enforcement officers at the very top of his mind.
“President Trump has placed the safety of our communities affected by these riots and these violent protests, and he has put the safety of our law enforcement officials first,” Noem said.
The violence comes in response to sweeping immigration attacks in the Los Angeles area. Federal immigration authorities say some of the migrants arrested last week have criminal records, including assault and drug offences.

Noem said Democrat California Gov. Gavin Newsom had made the move to send troops to “make a bad decision.”
Newsom claims that Trump is deploying a National Guard “not because of a shortage of law enforcement, but because he wants spectacle.”
The California governor said Saturday that the state deployed the California Highway Patrol to keep the Los Angeles highways safe, but added that “it’s not their job to help enforce federal immigrants.”
However, Noem vowed that Trump would not “make the repetition of 2020.”
She further criticized Democrats by pointing out how the Democratic government in Minnesota responded during the 2020 riots.
“Governor Tim Waltz made a very bad decision,” she said. Waltz added that he tried to seek the help of the National Guard after “letting his city burn for days.”

Waltz called for the National Guard two days after the riots began in 2020. This is the point highlighted last year after former Vice President Kamala Harris tapped him as her running mate in the presidential run against Trump.

Noem explained that 2,000 National Guard soldiers are specially trained for “this type of crowd situation.” There, the safety around the building provides peaceable protests and safety to those engaged in law enforcement.
Noem said the National Guard would help with security in some areas, but she said she would not talk about the exact location where the troops will be deployed in certain security operations.

“They are there at the president’s direction to maintain peace and enable people to not only protest, but also to maintain law and order,” she said of the National Guard. “That’s very important to the president.”
