Nordstrom is set to close the location at Santa Monica Place Shopping Centre, announced by the luxury department store chain this week.
In a statement from KTLA 5 News, the spokesman said the store’s final day of business will be August 26th. No specific reason was given to the closure.
“Decisions like this are never easy. We understand the impact they have on team members,” a Nordstrom spokesperson said. “We are committed to taking care of our employees through this transition, including helping those interested in finding another role within Nordstrom.”
Santa Monica Place Nordstrom opened about 15 years ago.
The company’s announcement comes less than a week after a police officer was shot dead at Santa Monica Place, trying to arrest a man suspected of shooting two teenagers in an autonomous Waymo Taxi.
The 500,000-square-foot shopping centre is located at the southern tip of Santa Monica’s struggling Third Street Promenade, with increasing availability dating back to the pandemic.
In May, Santa Monica City Council approved allegations that it would allow open alcohol consumption along the promenade.
Nordstrom was founded in 1901 by Swedish immigrant John Nordstrom as a shoe store in Seattle, Washington. Over the decades, it expanded from footwear to full-line fashion retailers, and currently has over 360 stores in the US, including the Nordstrom Rack location.
