The Nordstrom store within Santa Monica Place is an iconic location that was closed nearly 15 years later.
The Seattle-based fashion retailer announced its closure on Monday, setting the final day for business on August 26th.
“We believe that we can leverage our surrounding stores and provide optimal service to our customers in the region through digital channels,” Nordstrom said in a statement.
We were excited to see that the three-storey 122,000-square-foot store opened in 2010, just two blocks from the beach in downtown Santa Monica.
The company said it is working to take care of its employees during the transition. It is not clear how many people will lose their jobs in the closure.
But as the retail industry continues to change, Nordstrom stores join dozens of other retailers who are halting their storefront operations.
Block DTLA’s Macy store closed earlier this year as part of the company’s plan to close around 150 bad locations by 2026. With the closure of Macy’s location, downtown Los Angeles left without a major department store for the first time in 150 years.
Party City closed some of the locations as Party City filed for bankruptcy, but CVS and Walgreens also announced plans to close hundreds of stores within 2025.
