The New York Attorney General’s Office has hired a powerful attorney, Abbe Lowell, to defend Attorney General Leticia James against the fraud charges imposed on her.
The office confirmed that it had hired Lowell, who represents famous politicians on both sides of the aisle, including Hunter Biden, Jared Kushner, Ivanka Trump, and former Senators Bob Mendes and Bill Clinton.
It is unclear whether taxpayer dollars are heading for James’ defense as Fox News Digital began asking how Lowell would be compensated, as the Attorney General’s office stopped answering questions.
Lowell represents James as a civilian, not as part of his partner Winston & Straon LLP.

US Federal Housing Director William Plute is considering investigating James with the Department of Justice and prosecuting her allegedly for forged bank documents and records to obtain a more lucrative loan. Lowell, who hung up Fox News Digital when he called over the phone, sent a letter to DOJ on Thursday urging him to refuse a request for Pulte’s prosecution.
A local report from the Times Coalition said the Attorney General’s Office was showing a decision to hire Lowell to defend James. This is based on their claim that the Trump administration is promoting politically motivated criminal referrals last year in response to James, who filed a civil lawsuit against Donald Trump, who allegedly inflated his assets in order to get a lucrative loan.
In a letter to DOJ directed at U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondy, Lowell called Pluto’s criminal introduction “the latest act of inappropriate political retaliation” from Trump.

“The stunning hypocrisy of President Trump’s complaints that the Justice Department has been “politicized” and “weaponized” against him is exposed as if he and others in his administration are asking you to take on the exact same practice,” Lowell wrote.
In his letter, Lowell points to cases where Trump called for revenge and the president’s personal attack on James.

Lowell also went after the allegations, including James listed his Virginia home as a major residence while serving as a state official in New York. According to Lowell, James had no intention of using the property as a primary residence and was wrong to show this in a letter of attorney. Lowell pointed out that there are other documents that showed James’s lender that Virginia’s home was not her primary residence.

The second charge of fraud against James accused him of inflating the number of livable units at multifamily Brooklyn residences in order to receive better interest rates. Lowell accused Pulte of ignoring updated documents listing the residence as a four-unit multifamily home, instead pointing out certificates of occupancy since 2001.
