Former President Barack Obama told the crowd Thursday night that sacrifices might be needed to resist President Donald Trump’s policies.
According to the Washington Post, Obama spoke at Hamilton College in Clinton, New York on Thursday, accusing the Trump administration of trying to destroy the international order after World War II.
During his speech, Obama called Trump’s actions “opposed to the basic compact that he has as an American,” and urged students to do more to resist Trump’s policies.
“It was easy in our lifetime to say you are progressive, you say you are for social justice, or you say you are free speech. And now we are not enough for you to do something. You may actually have to do something.

Obama also said that law firms and universities need to play a more active role in resisting Trump, and claimed there will be a massive pushback if they try to sanction law firms.
“I can’t imagine the same political party that is now silent has allowed such actions from a bunch of me and my predecessors,” Obama said.
Kamala Harris asked for his support, so he was “very frustrated” with Obama, the book revealed.

“If we don’t give up on students who exercise their rights to free speech, we will have a deep interest in the federal government that threatens universities,” Obama said.
“You’ve grown up in an international order created by the United States after World War II, which is a key moment as the US government has been trying to destroy that order for the past two months,” Obama said. “Democracy is vintage and fairly recent. The international order that works together instead of fighting is new. It’s fragile.”
