Former President Barack Obama issued a rare statement on Sunday taking into account the hunger situation in Gaza. It suggests that aid must flow to Palestinians, regardless of whether Israel can secure hostage trade for now.
Obama issued a statement on social media in connection with a report from the New York Times that stated that “Gazan is dying of starvation.” Israel, which blocked aid to Gaza earlier this year, has recently begun broadcasting aid resources to the region, with its leaders claiming that reporting of starvation was a false campaign promoted by Hamas. However, a report from Fox News’ Trey Yingst shows that hunger actually spreads throughout the region.
“While the enduring resolutions against the Gaza crisis must include the return of all hostages and the suspension of Israeli military operations, these articles highlight the need for immediate action to prevent the tragedy of innocent people who die from preventable starvation.”
“Assistance must be granted to reach the people of Gaza. There is no justification for moving food and water away from civilian families,” he added.

When asked about the situation on Sunday, President Donald Trump touted his efforts to provide assistance to Gaza. He met with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen at the time and said Europe was not providing assistance to Gaza. He also said Hamas was stealing much of the aid being sent to the Palestinians.
“When I look at the kids, especially when I see people stealing food over the past few weeks, they’re stealing money, they’re stealing money for the food. They’re stealing weapons, they’re stealing everything,” Trump told reporters.
“It’s chaos, the whole place is chaos. Gaza Strip, you know it was given so that you could have peace years ago. It didn’t work very well,” he added.

IDF says it carried out 28 drops in just a few hours on Sunday, in addition to transferring around 250 aid trucks over the course of the week.
“Let me be clear: Israel supports civilian aid, not Hamas. The IDF will continue to support the flow of humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza,” an IDF spokesperson said on Sunday.
President Donald Trump says the situation in Gaza is “confusing” and claims Hamas is stealing Palestinian aid.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has pushed back criticism of his administration, claiming that the UN is falsely pushing its claims of widespread hunger. He told a Jerusalem post on Sunday that it was an Israeli policy to allow assistance to Gaza, provided it does not benefit Hamas.

“I’ve done this so far,” Netanyahu told the paper. “But the UN is spreading lies and falsehoods about Israel. They say we don’t allow humanitarian supplies, but we do. There are safe corridors. They were always there, but now they’re official. There’s no more excuses.”
