The mule, who risked the possibility of death after failing to wake up, was rescued by the Orange County Fire Department in Trabuco Canyon.
A team of experts, including a technical rescue team and an experienced veterinarian, helped bring the mule back to their feet a few hours later. The OCFA said the 20-year-old mule named Eli suffered from COLIC, which would have been fatal if she had stayed for a long time.
Eli’s owner and friends did everything they could to get him to stand up again, but they couldn’t. That’s when they contacted Station 18 for help.
The rescue team secured the mule with their feet and bodies and used large mats to pull it out of the stable. Using cranes and trucks, the team was able to stand upright with Eli standing.
“Our dedication to our services is beyond protecting nearly two million people,” OCFA said in a statement. “We are proud to enrich our community and serve the entire community, including pets, service animals and livestock, the cornerstones of Orange County’s history and spirit.”
Following the ordeal, the owner of Eli said the mule was getting better.
