An officer who assisted in a police response in downtown Los Angeles Saturday night was hospitalized with lacerations, according to a report from the Los Angeles Police Department.
Police said officers first responded to a report of a man with a gun near 11th Avenue and Union Street around 5:43 p.m.
During the response, an officer reportedly sustained a laceration to the head approximately 7 inches long. The Los Angeles Police Department has not confirmed the nature of the lacerations, saying it is unclear how exactly the officer inflicted the cuts.
The police officer personally transported him to a nearby hospital. No further updates were provided on their condition.
Officers set up a wide perimeter around the area of Pico Union as they continued to search for the suspect, the department said.

“The situation is fluid and ongoing,” the Los Angeles Police Department told KTLA.
Details are still limited. A description of the suspect or his disappearance has not been released.
No other injuries were reported in the incident.
