A top Food and Drug Administration vaccine official, which was part of the first Trump administration’s operating speed, has been reportedly kicked out of his position.
The WSJ reported that the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) was said to have given Dr. Peter the option to resign or fire him, citing people who are familiar with the matter.
Dr. Peter Marks, director of the Center for Biological Assessment and Research at the Food and Drug Administration, will answer questions at the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pension Committee hearing on May 11, 2021, to discuss the federal government’s ongoing response to Covid-19 at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.

“It has become clear that truth and transparency are not wanted by the secretary, but rather he wants a subordinate confirmation of his misinformation and lies,” Marks wrote in his resignation letter. The WSJ reports that his resignation will come into effect on April 5th.
WSJ said that people familiar with the issue were able to say that Marks’ stance on vaccines was HHS secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Kennedy, an outspoken vaccine skeptic, was asked about the issue of vaccination during his confirmation hearing. However, he emphasized that he was not an “anti-vaccine” and defined himself as “safety.” He also revealed at the hearing: “All my children have been vaccinated and I think the vaccine plays an important role in health care.”

Recently, Kennedy’s attitude toward vaccines has been tested as measles spreads to Texas. He told Dr. Marc Siegel, senior medical analyst at Fox News earlier this month that he was recommending a measles vaccine to promote “community immunity.”
Fox News Digital reached out to the FDA and HHS but did not receive a response immediately as the request was sent outside of business hours.

In August 2020, Marks reportedly confirmed to Reuters that he threatened to resign if the Covid-19 vaccine was released before it proved safe and effective.
“You have to decide where your red line is, and that’s my red line,” Marks told Reuters in 2020. [to resign] Because doing so shows that there is something wrong with the American people. ”
