Buckeye State will provide assistance from Ohio Highway Patrol to assist the Cincinnati Police Department, a governor’s press release presented Wednesday.
“Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Purebal and Cincinnati Police Chief Teresa Tegge announced today that the state will provide additional talent to support the Cincinnati Police Department.”
The announcement comes as a shock to the public last week when a fierce downtown beat bullet in Cincinnatti, Ohio went viral online last week.

“After hearing concerns from community members about recent cases of violence, local governments have requested assistance from the Ohio Highway Patrol (OSHP) to support traffic enforcement and provide air support,” the release states.
“OSHP troopers will focus on traffic enforcement to release local officers to respond and investigate other crimes. OSHP’s aviation units will focus on local violent crime reduction initiatives, search for suspected crimes, and assist in mitigating vehicle tracking,” he continues.
DeWine, a Republican, has been governor since early 2019.

“Ohio basically has a package of law enforcement assistance services that states can provide when local governments can use additional assistance,” he said in a press release. “We’ve done this in other cities and it made a huge difference.”
DeWine also provides other resources if the city needs them, the release says.

“In addition to air support and traffic enforcement, Gov. DeWine also offers additional Cincinnati services, including additional support for Ohio’s Department of Rehabilitation and Amendment and Ohio Youth Services, due to illegal sales, drug trafficking and prostitution,” the press release states.
